The largest fruit growing part of northern Europe, just south of Hamburg is worth a visit at any time of the year. When the cherry and apple trees are in flower from the end of April till the end of May the whole countryside is transformed into a red and white fairy land. Later in the year cyclists and inline skaters enjoy the summer sun and a breeze from the river Elbe.
IIn autumn the red apples »smile« at you from amongst the green trees. The farm shops offer fresh fruit and home made specialities. But even on cold days a walk along the dikes of the »Altes Land« is something worth doing, especially when you have a nice cup of coffee with home-made cakes in one of the coffee shops.
