With the Lüneburg Heath right at the doorstep of the Wachtelhof you have the chance of seeing rare birds and plants on your walks. There are guided tours between May and October.
Romantic villages and the museum-village Wilsede are best explored by bike or horse drawn coach. You get a wonderful view across the heath land and from the top of the Wilseder Berg, the highest elevation of the north-west German plain. There might also be a flock of heathland sheep grazing.
